Remember Baby “D” in the NICU?  2 posts ago?

Here she is safe and sound in her own home.  She got to go home from the NICU.  They never really figured out why she was vomiting blood, but it stopped.

She is just a stunning baby…….

Baby “B” | Southern California Baby Photographer

I love newborns.  I am so lucky that I am blessed enough to see God’s miracles and document these first moments. Their tiny toes, little ears, rosy lips.  It makes me smile just thinking about it.  Baby “B” was no exception.  Perfect in every way…even when he pooped on mommy once…twice…three times.  :)

Baby “D” in the NICU | Southern California Baby Photographer

It was a record breaking delivery.  Her mommy arrived at the hospital at noon and baby “D” was here at 4:00.  After a few hours baby “D” went with her Nurse for a bath.  After awhile

her mommy became worried when they did not return.  Then a Doctor came in with 2 Nurses.  They told her mommy and daddy that during the bath, baby “D” began to vomit blood and they did not know why.  Her tummy was also very large…she was now in the NICU.

Kourt - May 12, 2010 - 10:28 pm

:( prayers for Baby D

Prem2Pram - May 20, 2010 - 3:06 am

Baby and parents are in our prayers.

Danielle Your photographs are a work of art and would make the perfect keepsake for new parents.

The Family Tree | Giving is Awesome | Southern California Photographer

In November I held a contest .

I was looking for someone who had experienced a tragedy, is struggling to stay afloat, is raising kids while holding down more than one job, or is volunteering selflessly despite extenuating personal circumstances.  Someone who deserves a year-round reminder of their family’s spirit, love, and beauty.

Of all the emails I received this one stuck out:

“I know of a family friend who is battling Stage 4 breast cancer. She had a mammogram a couple years ago and they said all was fine and then last year she went in for a rash on her chest and it came back as Stage 4. It has spread to other parts of her body. She has had part of her skull removed and she just had a double mastectomy 2 weeks ago.  She is extremely family oriented…in spite of everything she just had her son’s wedding at her house and was helping her other son move into his house. She dreams of watching her grandchildren grow up but does not think she will get to. She would truly appreciate a family session with her kids and grandchildren. Thank you for opening your heart to people in need! Happy Holidays!”

I chose Cheri and her family and this is their session.

I speak from the heart when I tell you…MAKE SURE YOU TAKE PICTURES OF YOUR FAMILY!  Use your point and shoot…it does not have to be with someone like me.  All of us do not know what tomorrow holds……all of us.

This first image, well I just love it.  It was not planned.  I stepped back a few steps to get a wider shot, I looked up and there it was, and instantly I felt something symbolic about it and knew it was “the shot”.  I get this every now and then where I will photograph something and before I even see the image…I am emotionally connected.

Cheri,  I chose you because you are a fighter.  I chose you because you are a beautiful person inside and out.  I chose you because you deserve it.  I chose you….

The boys with their Uncle…so sweet.  He is SINGLE by the way…and a snowboard instructor.  Ladies, if you are interested you can email me:)

Cheri’s gorgeous daughter in law’s

Cheri’s handsome son’s  (did i mention that the one in the middle is single?)

Cheri, my wish is that these images will remind you everyday of how much you are loved.  May they fuel your fight against cancer and fill your heart.

Love,

Danielle

To our dear friends and kids, Joe and Cheri. When we first met you, you were the age of your son’s. We came to love you like family and still do, so many good times are remembered, playing our card games and being neighbors. Twins | {Southern California Twins Photographer}

I firmly believe events that happen in our lives are not random.  I also like to share with you whenever something happens in my life that truly touches my heart.  This is one of those times.

Many months ago, I photographed baby Ben in the NICU at Loma Linda Childrens’ Hospital.  Afterwards I received this email.

“To start, I really won’t be upset, or offended if you say no, but I thought I’d check. We have a friend who had twins in March at 30 weeks out at Loma Linda. The baby boy came home in May I believe, but the girl has had LOTS of problems. To the point where she is still at Loma Linda’s NICU and there is really no plan for when they will send her home. They have removed most of her small bowel, and she is still open (since June!). In the midst of all this it was the babies’ grandma (my friend’s mom) who was Lisa Walters (the lactation nurse from SACH who was killed in the motorcycle accident in May). I don’t think they’ve been able to have any professional pictures done with the baby, and I saw what a great job you did with Janet and baby Benjamin even with all the tubes and wires. Also, their medical bills are out of control with having her in the hospital for so long. If you are there either visiting Janet or taking pictures, if you could do something for them I’m sure they’d appreciate it.”

I stopped right in my tracks….The babies grandmother that had passed away was a friend of mine.  When I was a nursing student in postpartum she helped me get through some tough times and she helped me with breastfeeding both of my children.  OF COURSE I WILL PHOTOGRAPH THEM!!!   But…unfortunately it was the height of H1N1 (swine flu), and they would only allow parents to see the baby.  I was heartbroken, you see, there was a chance that baby A would  not survive.  All I could do was pray for her.

Fast forward to now.  I asked mom to share the twins journey:

My husband and I have been married for 8 years, we tried about 5 years to get pregnant. With no luck we turned to IVF.  Durning the pregancy I was very sick and placed on bedrest. After several weeks my Dr’s felt I needed to be hospitalized. My blood pressure was dangerously high and in the middle of the night I went blind. I was rushed for an emergency C-section to try and save the babies. The twins were 10 weeks early.  Logan was in the NICU for 6 weeks but our baby girl became very ill due to her premature body. She had a total of 8 surgeries. Dr’s told us she would not survive , all we did was pray. After 209 days in the hospital our miricale baby came home. Addison still needs breathing treatments and IV to feed her but she is here. To top it all off my mom and dad were in a horrible accident and my mom passed away when the twins were 8 weeks old. The last year has been a challange, we take it one day at a time.

Here is the amazing miracle, baby “A”

And the Handsome baby “L”

So, your probably wanting to see the twins together, right?

well, first we sat them together on the floor, but “L” has this thing with sticking his finger in his sisters ear:)

Next we tried the couch…but the finger came out again:)

“L” likes to stand…so we thought we would make him happy:)

Smiles,

Danielle

“O” turns 1! | {Southern California Childrens’ Photographer}

It has been raining off and on here in So Cal.  I was bummed cuz I had to reschedule this session from a few weeks ago.  Then the night before the rescheduled session, it started raining again:(.  But we stuck it out…and luckily the sun came up and stayed up for little “O”.  You may recognize this little peanut from her newborn and six month sessions.  She is growing so fast, and she is definitely on the move!

Her mommy nominated the winner of “giving is awesome”.  I am going to wait to share the story with you until I photograph the winner…….

Have you ever noticed how much one year olds love their tongue??

Disneyland | {Southern California Photographer}

I love disneyland.  Before I had children, I could care less.  But now, I think because my children love it so much…so do I.

After Jonathan got sick (see October 2008), We didn’t go for about 6 months.  First of all, he could not even sit in a stroller and secondly I had to carry him.  But after awhile I missed it and decided to go.  I usually go alone with my children, my husband does not have the patience for the sea of strollers and whining:) OMG, I thought I would die!  I carried all 30 pounds of him in line for every ride.  I swore I would not return until he was walking.  So I waited, and I really thought he would wake up one morning and walk out of his bedroom.  swear!

Then came his birthday and the one year anniversary of his illness.  Still not walking.  So, I decided to try it again.  It was SO crowded and the lines were so long!  After a few rides, I was so frustrated, I began to cry.  I was on my way out of Disneyland, when I passed the city hall.  I thought, let me ask them if they will let me bring my stroller in line and then I can pick it up at the end of the ride?

So In I went, and Im sure I looked weathered and frustrated.  I said, “can you please help me?  My son cannot walk and I cannot bear to carry him in line.  Is there any way I could get special permission to bring his stroller in line with me??”  He looked at Jonathan and then looked at me and said,”Of course!”  ”Just take this pass with you to the ride and enter through the exit with his stroller, and they will help you on to the rides”.

Oh my gosh!  I seriously thought about jumping up over the counter and giving him a bear hug!  But, I didn’t.  I just kept thanking him.

Since then, we have gone to Disneyland 4 times.

But I get the dirtiest looks from people looking at us.  I mean, Jonathan does not wear his “handicapped” t-shirt (no, he does not really have one), so people do not understand.  I would literally give anything to wait in those lines with a squirmy 3 year old, who climbed all over.

What is the moral of this???

1.  Disneyland Rocks!

2. The next time you are there and see someone in the handicapped line and think to yourself, they don’t look handicapped…..smile at them, cuz they would much rather wait in line with you:)
